MATERIALS

  • thin, stiff cardboard (I used the backing of a 9x12 sketchpad)
  • paper (to draft a pattern)
  • scissors or craft knife
  • acrylic paint in white and green
  • red ribbon
  • hot glue
  • [optional] white duct tape

HOW TO DO

  1. First, make yourself a pattern out of paper to get a feel for how big you want it to be. Take photos with the pattern on so you can get a better picture of what you'd like to adjust.

  2. Trace the outline onto your cardboard of choice and cut it out carefully with some sharp scissors or a precision knife. I used the backing of my sketchpad because it stiffens up nicely with acrylic paint.

  3. Patiently paint the whole thang white and allow it to dry between layers. Once that's done, hot glue your ribbon on the back. I used white duct tape to give the ribbon a little more hold and added some near the chin so that my makeup wouldn't rub onto the mask.

  4. VERY CAREFULLY AND SLOWLY flatten your hands and give the mask as much as a bend as you'd like. Use caution during this process as the harsher you bend your cardboard, the more wrinkles will appear on the surface.

  5. Draw the kitty face on the top, paint with green acrylic paint, wait for it to dry and bing bang boom yay you cat now
